Nordic Music Days
A music festival of contemporary classical music - once every eyar
Nordic Music Days is one the world’s oldest ongoing music festivals, started in 1888. The festival is administered by the Nordic Composers Council with each of the Nordic countries taking turns to manage the festival’s practical arrangements. From 2007, the festival is four days long and will be held every year (instead of every other year). The goal has always been to promote the music of Nordic composers. Second performances are given priority but bespoke works will also be presented for the first time during the festival.

Nordic Music Days 2007 was arranged by The Society of Swedish Composers on behalf of the Nordic Composers Council. The concert programme was put together by the Nordic Composers Council’s artistic council with Erik Peters as chairman. Erik Peters was also the artistic director for Nordic Music Days 2007 in Norrköping. The programme council was comprised of Scandinavian musicians and composers. The programme council worked with three different perspectives in mind, the regional, the Nordic and the international. Read more about Nordic Music Days here.

Nordic Music Days served as a platform for an international exchange between ensembles, musicians and repertoires in order to spread the music of Nordic composers. The festival maintains a Nordic profile but the council has a flexible mandate in creating the festival programme and does not need to take national representation into consideration. In addition to the works submitted by composers, the council is also honoured with suggestions from Nordic and international ensembles. Council members also contribute quite a few of their own ideas.
